Miracle Plant

Now this plant is a trooper. My family likes to call this plant the Miracle Plant and I will explain why.

It was the beginning of winter in 2018, and I was put in charge of taking care of the plants and bringing the ones inside that would not survive the cold. Faced with that task, I took in the cilantro, parsley, peppermint, basil, and I left out the cactus but I did not think to bring in the succulent. I do not know what was going on in my head that day, but knowing that cacti are in the succulent family and that they can survive cold weather, I automatically assumed that the succulent would survive, completely disregarding the fact that this specific succulent is supposed to stay in either room temperature, or in warm outdoor weather.

Fast forward a week later. My mom goes outside to let the dogs out and she sees that her once beautiful, succulent plant was all shriveled up. (How she did not notice it before still surprises me to this day). Filled with anger and confusion, my mom walks in the house and calls, nay, yells my name and yells at me to come downstairs. Confused on why she was yelling at me, I came downstairs to see the dead succulent in her hand and my immediate thought was, "Oh no, what did I do." My mom asked me why I left the plant out in the freezing cold weather and I replied with, "Well mom, when you asked me to bring the plants inside, I knew right away to bring in the seasoning type plants, and to not bring in the cacti, but when I saw the succulent, I assumed I didn't need to bring it in because cacti are in the succulent family, and in my brain, that meant that the succulent was going to be fine. But when I look at the plant now, I understand where I went wrong." My mom just looked at me with disappointment filled in her eyes and started to laugh at me. She then told me to put it on the counter so we could try and bring it back because it is a very expensive plant. Happy I wasn't grounded, I agreed quickly and soundly.

Now we are towards the end of winter, and the plant is slowly making progress but everyone, besides me, thought that the plant was not going to make it. Because of my families doubts, I like to take full credit of its new found beauty.

It is now the end of winter and almost the beginning of Spring, but warm enough to put the succulent back outside, so we put the plant back outside on our back porch in the only spot that gets the most direct sunlight. After about a week of being outside and with its past nourishment, we started to see sprouts come out of the soil! When I saw that little sprout, I was so proud of myself and all the guilt of supposedly "killing the plant" went away.

I honestly do no know how it was still alive after all it went through and how it grew so fast, but based off of the plants experiences and the picture above, you can see that it has flourished, and still is, into a beautiful, non-dead succulent that has earned the title of "Miracle Plant."
